About IKEA

IKEA is originally known as Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd. IKEA is a Swedish multinational group of companies that creates and sells easy to assemble furniture such as chairs, desks, and other appliances and home accessories. IKEA provides a range of home furnishing products at affordable prices for their customers. It is due to a combination of functions, design, manufacturing and value.

History of IKEA

The IKEA first started in 1926 when the founder, Ingvar Kamprad, born in Småland, located in southern Sweden. He was later raised in 'Elmtaryd', a farm near the village of Agunnaryd. Even as a young boy Kamprad had ideas on how to create a successful business.

1920s

At the age of five, Kamprad started profiting from selling matches to his community. By the time he turned the age of seven, he expanded his location further ahead by using the transportation of a bicycle. He used the process of buying matches in bulk at a low price and then deciding to re-sell them at a very low price but still making extraordinary profit. From matches he then moved on to selling flower seeds, greeting cards, Christmas tree decorations, and later pencils and ball-point pens.
