QUESTIONS/ANSWERS ABOUT IKEA'S IS

After visiting the IKEA where Rogers works in (Elizabeth New Jersey), the entire team were able to get a tour of store were able to ask specific questions about IKEA's Information Systems:

1) What types of hardware does IKEA use? 

"IKEA uses a large variety of industry standard hardware for example Dell, HP, Cisco, Etc...."

2) Basic information about the servers that we use? 

"The same with the servers we use a variety we have a mix of Dell, HP, Cisco."

3) What database does IKEA use? 

"IKEA has several different databases, Everything from Oracle, DB2, SAP…even down to small scale DB’s like MS Access, SQL"

4) How long have we had this database for?

"Some of our databases are classified has legacy databases and are very unique to IKEA IT infrastructure, some have been around for over a decade."

5) How do you integrate the information systems with our inventory? 

"We use differ software modules layered on top of our inventory database to provide key information to our many different functions (Sales, Logistics, Distribution Etc…)"

6) Does our database/Information systems have any strengths and weaknesses? 

"With the growth of technology and the demand for more “real time” information our “challenge” is meeting the ever changing customer needs and building systems flexible enough to meet those demands, Our “strength” is we are doing this in line with our core IKEA values."
